SMELLIT can make you drool, like when you see that Chef taking a hot and crispy pizza from the oven. Or make you turn your head and wish you can take that "putrefaction" cartridge out of the smell board.

HOW IT WORKS

SMELLIT works just like your printer, but instead of ink cartridges, it works with smell cartridges. As your DVD player reads the video and sound information from your favourite DVD disc, SMELLIT processes the same DVD, but the ”smell CARD” decodes all the smell information from 10 to 20 seconds* ahead of the actual scene so the odours have time to reach the spectators. After decoding the smell information, the cartridge vaporizes a very small amount off concentrated “smell gel”, and the central fan distributes equally the smell in all directions. It can be loaded with 118 cartridges, each one with a different concentrated “smell gel”. All the cartridges can be easily changed and last 3 times more than a regular ink cartridge.

Truly one of the awesomest booth design discoveries in my first few minutes at CES, Joby’s newest iPad case Ori is so inspired by Origami, that they tapped THE origami guru, Robert Lang to help them make a stop motion origami video, as well as this gorgeous booth structure! The structure is an absolutely mesmerizing geometric multifaceted modular origami piece made up of 112 19.75” square sheets, one side mirrored, one side white. Each pyramid ends up about 12” per side, and the overall sculpture is 80” x 48” x 18”. It took about 2 days of folding and assembly! And they shipped it over WHOLE in a crate! Both Robert and the guys at Joby were kind enough to even send over making of pics… so check out not only booth pics and the stop motion video on the next page, but see it from a single folded piece to getting to the show floor as well!

Anicka Yi & Maggie Peng Shigenobu Twilight

This is the first handcrafted scent by NY artist Anicka Yi and architect Maggie Peng. The fragrance is inspired by the Fusako Shigenobu, former leader of the Japanese Red Army, who was believed to be in exile in Lebanon for many years after orchestrating some of the group's most political statements. Yi and Peng have chosen cedar wood as a central theme of this fragrance's narrative, as cedar is highly regarded in Lebanon as a national emblem. The scent uses three different kinds of cedar wood as its base note, along with violet leaf and nutty heart notes, and top notes of yuzu, shiso leaf, and black pepper. The packaging for this hand-distilled fragrance is made of raw cedar wood, each bottle uniquely (and painstakingly) hand-cut by the creators in architectural geometry, encasing a 10ml glass bottle of liquid within.

Memoir Woman is described as a leather/animalic chypre. Designer Tommy Hilfiger has quietly dropped his All-American image to promote Loud, his newest men's and women's fragrances for Estée Lauder. Earlier fragrance launches featured blonde-haired, blue-eyed American models, while new ads for Loud feature models who appear more at home in the 1980s club scene.

Both Loud for Her and Loud for Him are built around rose and patchouli notes and were developed by Aurelien Guichard and Yann Vasnier of Givaudan. The women’s scent adds lychee to the rose top note, and finishes with patchouli, while the men’s juice is primarily patchouli with a hint of rose.

Designed to mirror the experience of seduction -- a sexy image that Guess has become known for over the years with its bombshell advertising -- the upscale designer has launched its newest women's fragrance.

Seductive was recently revealed in Florence, Italy, and the company has high hopes for its first scent to come out of its new license with manufacturer Coty, Inc.

"Guess is thrilled to be unveiling our newest scent, Seductive, in partnership with Coty," says Paul Marciano, Chief Executive Officer and Creative Director of Guess, Inc. "Coty is a leader in the beauty and fragrance industry and we feel confident and proud to have worked so closely with them on the launch of Seductive."

According to a industry sources, the new Guess eau de toilette will be sold throughout Europe initially and targets $80 million in retail sales during its first year. It comes to North and South America in September 2010, available at select department stores and on Guessparfums.com.

"As a company, Guess is going through a renaissance with a huge sales push in Europe, and a broadening of its portfolio," Steve Mormoris, senior vice president of global marketing for Coty Beauty told WWD. "Seductive will easily make the fragrance top 10 in a year and be a significant player in the category."

Created by perfumer Veronique Nyberg, Guess Seductive is meant to embody coquettish charm with a daring edge.

The scent starts off with light, sparkling top notes of bergamot, blackcurrant and crispy pear, with jasmine, orange flower and Florentine Orris - a historic note harvested in Florence and used in perfumery for centuries - as its middle notes. Base notes include vanilla, spicy olibanum and a musky cashmere wood.

With a nod to its former advertising, the new scent's print campaign, shot by Vincent Peters, features a fresh Guess girl, model Alyssa Miller (who can been seen filming a Guess campaign in the below video) in a black-and-white ad set in Rome that portrays a sexy, retro Italian film encounter. "Fragrance is about tension. With white flowers like jasmine and lily and a sparkle of mandarin, incense and white pepper, we have achieved that perfectly. It could not be heavy like the original Opium. To be modern is to be light, which is why I used peach and mandarin," Blanc told StyleList.

After four years of agonizing over the details of the fragrance, we wondered: how did Blanc finally know when it was just right?

"Sometimes you feel something in your gut that you can't describe -- like when you meet someone that you love, but you don't know exactly why. That's how I felt when I knew it was done," said Blanc.

As for our thoughts on the juice itself, it's surprisingly on the lighter side -- in spite of a musky amber center that is overtly sexual, yet tempered by the sweet citrus notes of mandarin and peach. Blanc referred to the scent as a "moist sensuality."

New Launch - Lancôme Ô

FRANCE. Lancôme has revamped its pioneering Ô de Lancôme feminine fragrance, created in 1969, with a new flacon designed by Fabien Baron. It is available now in European travel retail, and will roll out to Asia from September.

The updated bottle is said to enhance the original design in a vintage yet contemporary luxe way. Engraved on the back are the original, emblematic swirls inspired by the Lancôme rose and the movement of gently rippling water. The front features an oversized letter Ô. The colour-scheme is a fresh green. The Ô de Lancôme juice within remains unchanged. Claimed to be the first fresh fragrance for women, it features top notes of lemon, mandarin orange and bergamot, leading to a heart of honeysuckle, rosemary and jasmine, atop a base of patchouli oil and vetiver. To complement the relaunch, Lancôme has created a new fragrance, Ô d’Azur. It too is available now in European travel retail, and will roll out to Asia from September. The fragrance aims to offer a fresh summer sensation, tinged with sensuality, the brand maintains. Composed by IFF’s Domitille Bertier and Sophie Labbé, the juice’s key ingredients include Calabrian lemon essence, Turkish Damask Rose, pink pepper, woods, musk and amber resin. The flacon echoes the Ô de Lancôme bottle, but in a gold/bronze colour-scheme. To support both fragrances, a new advertising campaign has been shot by Mario Testino, featuring house model Daria Werbowy. Ô d’Azur is being showcased as part of the group’s global summer travel retail Europe animations, which began this month.

Coty Prestige will unveil a new feminine fragrance from designer Vera Wang this autumn. Vera Wang Anniversary, created to commemorate 20 years of Vera Wang design, is described as a “celebration of love, happiness and modern femininity”.

The juice – a sensual, woody floral – opens on notes of Sicilian bergamot, red apple leaves, mandarin oil and “a sprinkle of cool drew drops”. The floral heart features white gardenia, rose absolute and orange flowers, while the dry-down includes musk, orris, amber and cedar wood.

The flacon is a reinterpretation of the signature Vera Wang fragrance bottle. It is decorated with violet petals, which reveal the lavender juice within. It is topped with a clear glass cap and a platinum collar – key elements of the Wang fragrance portfolio. The outer packaging sports a silver floral motif.

Vera Wang Anniversary will be available as a 50ml and 100ml edp, plus a 10ml shimmer roller ball. The scent will be available from September for a limited period only.

The partnership brings together three powerful entities – fragrance, confectionery and music – under the name of superstar Mariah Carey. Carey joined Arden's celebrity stable in 2006. Lollipop Bling was inspired by the “fun and playful nature” of her marriage proposal – an engagement ring hidden inside a Ring Pop lollipop package. Mariah Carey's Lollipop Bling, a trio of confectionery-inspired scents, is described as a breakthrough concept unique to both the fragrance and candy categories. The inspiration for Lollipop Bling, Carey's marriage proposal, and the brand story will be told in multiple ways. Each fragrance purchase will include a Ring Pop, and the national advertising will feature Carey wearing Ring Pops. The fragrance and packaging are candy- and flavour-inspired. In addition, an interactive on-line experience will incorporate the Ring Pop inspiration.

SWITZERLAND. La Prairie has extended its Life Threads fragrance line with three new scents: Life Threads Sapphire, Ruby and Emerald. They will be available from September.

The new trio aims to represent “precious ties that bind…[and] personal passions”. The fragrances were inspired by the legends and emotional associations of the gems they represent.

For example, the brand maintains that the sapphire was once believed to the firmament in which the earth was embedded. It evokes an island in a soothing ocean, ideal for peace and meditation.

In contrast, the ruby – the colour of love – is associated with passion and power. It is said to inspire extravagant emotions, deeply felt and freely expressed.

Lastly, the emerald, regarded by the Incas and Aztecs as a “holy” gemstone, was also treasured by Egyptian pharaohs. The purity of its green tone is also considered to be a symbol of renewal, the rebirth of nature, and the splendour of spring.

The Life Threads Sapphire juice is a floral woody amber. It opens on notes of green leaves, apricot and freesia, building to a heart of sea jasmine, wild narcissus and gardenia. The base is a blend of woods and amber.

Life Threads Ruby is a floral oriental. It features top notes of bergamot, orange flower and lily of the valley, atop a heart of saffron, ylang-ylang, red rose and jasmine absolute. The dry down includes sandalwood, vetiver, musk and vanilla.

Also a floral oriental, Life Threads Emerald opens on notes of galbanum, orange flower and angelica. The heart is a blend of Bulgarian rose, Indian jasmine and French daffodil, while the base mixes iris, sandalwood, oak moss and pure amber.

Each fragrance is presented in a lucite bottle wrapped in strands of silver with small sapphire, ruby or emerald crystals. The outer cartons are white, decorated with silver printed threads and the appropriate colour crystals.

FRANCE. Cofinluxe has introduced a new feminine fragrance from Salvador Dali, called Laguna Maravilla. It was inspired by the brand’s original Laguna fragrance, which was launched in 1991.

The updated juice is described as fresh, radiant, exotic and sparkling. A citrus/floral/woody, it was created by Symrise’s Marc Buxton, who composed the original Laguna. The fragrance opens on top notes of Italian lemon, Sicilian bergamot, Calabrian mandarin and Spanish verbena. The floral heart features lily-of-the-valley, Egyptian rose, water jasmine and cyclamen, atop a base of vanilla, woods, musk and amber. Laguna Maravilla is available as a 50ml and 100ml edp spray, and a 30ml, 50ml and 100ml edt spray. The flacon for both is a revamped version of the original Laguna, with the same nose and mouth of the goddess of love and beauty celebrated by Dali in his canvas "Apparition of the Face of Aphrodite of Knidos in a Landscape". The edp bottle features a transparent, metallic blue-green surface finish, with the sculptural stopper – Aphrodite's nose – finished in translucent green. It is presented in a blue-green and silver presentation case, one side of which is illustrated with the painting that inspired by the bottle. The edt flacon is colored an aquatic shade of blue-green. Laguna Maravilla began rolling out internationally this month.

The Pop Art Edition is said to capture the perfect mix of moods: “the polish of uptown luxury and a relaxed downtown vibe”.

For this version, the Daisy bottle sports a shiny red lacquer, offset with a white logo. The signature petal cap is coloured a contrasting black and gold. The outer carton is also a glossy red, embellished with a black daisy chain border.

The 100ml edp Marc Jacobs Daisy Pop Art Edition will be available from August.

In other news, Coty will introduce a new limited-edition version of Marc Jacobs Lola this autumn. The Velvet Edition has been created to celebrate the first anniversary of the original fragrance.

As its name suggests, the new version features a bottle with the signature petal cap re-upholstered in a soft velvet. The flacon has also been revamped in a vibrant shade of frosted violet. The outer carton sports a matching violet border and a multi-coloured flower.
